National Icelandic Sheepdog Rescue Alliance (NISRA) Mission
At the National Icelandic Sheepdog Rescue Alliance, our mission transcends mere animal care; it’s a commitment to preserving a legacy. As a devoted, volunteer-driven 501(c)3 non-profit organization, founded in 2009, we dedicate ourselves to the safeguarding and nurturing of the Icelandic Sheepdog, an ancient and rare jewel of the canine world.
We are steadfast in our resolve to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Icelandic Sheepdogs, ensuring that every ‘Icie’ in distress finds a loving, permanent sanctuary. Our approach is comprehensive and compassionate, encompassing not only rescue and rehoming but also providing critical transport and foster care services.
Understanding the pivotal role of education, we serve as an informative beacon for Icie owners, breeders, and the broader public, offering resources and guidance to deepen their understanding and appreciation of this unique breed. We believe in nurturing the bond between Icies and their families, offering support to current owners with the aim of maintaining these cherished companions in their loving homes whenever feasible.
Our network thrives on the spirit of volunteerism. We actively seek, celebrate, and support volunteers whose dedication breathes life into our mission. As a central communication hub, we connect owners, breeders, and enthusiasts, fostering a community united in its passion for Icelandic Sheepdogs.
In celebrating this special breed, our vision is not just to address the immediate needs of these dogs but to ensure their enduring welfare and recognition. We envision a future where the Icelandic Sheepdog is not only preserved but thrives, supported by a knowledgeable, engaged community that cherishes every wagging tail and heartfelt bark. This is our pledge and our promise, as guardians of the Icelandic Sheepdog legacy.
